Operation Prevention: Next Steps from the National League of Cities
As the experts on the Operation Prevention - Educating Youth on the Dangers of Opioid Misusepanel attested, the opioid epidemic affects every community across the country. To support community leaders looking for solutions, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Discovery Education offer no-cost prevention resources through the Operation Prevention program. The program aims to combat the growing epidemic of prescription opioid misuse and heroin use by educating students about the science behind addiction and its impacts on the brain and body. This initiative for grades 3-12, educators, and parents delivers standards-aligned, digital resources for use in the classroom and at home.
Program resources include:
- Elementary, middle, and high school digital lesson plans and activities
- High School Student Video Challenge, which is accepting entries through March 20, 2018
- Parent toolkit
- Interactive e-learning module
- Teacher training webinar
- Virtual Field Trips
- Spanish website and resources
