PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Legislative Affairs Specialist performs a variety of professional duties related to planning, organizing, coordinating, and implementing programs and processes designed to promote, monitor, influence, and communicate policies and goals of the West Virginia Municipal League (WVML) and its affiliated organizations to various audiences, including federal government, state government, county government and municipal government. This position reports to the Executive Director.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The City of Huntington and its Open to All diversity campaign received the first-place award in the 50,000-and-under population category for the National League of Cities’ (NLC) City Cultural Diversity Awards Program during a conference Monday in Washington, D.C.
Designed to promote and reward inclusive policies in the nation’s cities, towns and villages, the awards program recognizes communities that have developed innovative ways of supporting diversity.
The Open to All diversity campaign actively promotes an inclusive environment for all people in the City of Huntington.

As the experts on the Operation Prevention - Educating Youth on the Dangers of Opioid Misusepanel attested, the opioid epidemic affects every community across the country. To support community leaders looking for solutions, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Discovery Education offer no-cost prevention resources through the Operation Prevention program. The program aims to combat the growing epidemic of prescription opioid misuse and heroin use by educating students about the science behind addiction and its impacts on the brain and body. This initiative for grades 3-12, educators, and parents delivers standards-aligned, digital resources for use in the classroom and at home.
Program resources include:
- Elementary, middle, and high school digital lesson plans and activities
- High School Student Video Challenge, which is accepting entries through March 20, 2018
- Parent toolkit
- Interactive e-learning module
- Teacher training webinar
- Virtual Field Trips
- Spanish website and resources

The WVDEP Office of Environmental Remediation is currently reviewing and enhancing the Voluntary Remediation Program. Internal changes have already—and will continue—to be implemented to streamline the program; however, additional improvements are being considered. OER is soliciting feedback and recommendations from all stakeholders now through January 31, 2018.
OER is looking for feedback from all VRP stakeholders, including Licensed REmediation Specialists, VRP applicants, attorneys, consultants, and industry representatives.

The Town Coordinator is responsible for the creation and supervision of town budgets, oversight of town employees (except the Police Department), implementation of council decisions, public relations, oversight of human resources tasks, and management of projects. A bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field is required.
