Job Posting - Chief Financial Officer for Bluefield, WV
The City of Bluefield, West Virginia is seeking a Chief Financial Officer. This position reports directly to the City Manager and is responsible for coordinating and facilitating the activities of the Treasury Department. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining complex accounting records, coordinating and participating in auditing assignments, preparing and analyzing financial statements and reports, complying with applicable laws and prescribed policies and procedures, as well as management of some computer system operations. Preference will be given to persons with experience in municipal government and licensed as a Certified Public Accountant. Experience with Accufund software is a plus. Persons with a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, public administration, business administration or a related field and municipal government experience are encouraged to apply.

If I Were Mayor Essay Contest Info
The West Virginia Municipal League is sponsoring the "If I Were Mayor, I Would..." essay contest. The contest is open to all 7th grade students in West Virginia. The League wants students to learn more about municipal government and this is a great way to achieve that goal.
Three winners will be chosen from 7th grade students across West Virginia. Each will receive an award plaque and a $250 savings bond.

Regional Jails
The Legislative Oversight Committee on Regional Jails and Correctional Facility Authority met and discussed the issue of overcrowding within the state prison facilities. Mr. Joe DeLong, Acting Director of Regional Jails, stated that they are doing the best that they can considering the funding supplied and the facilities that are available for them to work with.
Senator Clark Barnes asked that they return with a comprehensive plan which would address the issues of overcrowding. He stated that he is growing tired of seeing the same charts and nothing being done about it.
